Alex Genadinik Interview with Rock the Hip Hop

Where are you from?

I am based in NYC. I was born in Odessa, Ukraine so some of my musical styles is influenced by Russian music.

How has your city influenced your sound?

I listen to many of the 20th-century Russian musicians. They have a stronger emphasis on poetry and creating meaningful songs. That’s the element of their music that influenced mine.

What instruments do you play?

I play guitar.

What’s your best performance?

My best liked song is this cover of an old Russian song:

What is your worst performance?

I once forgot the lyrics to a song I was in the middle of editing and I couldn’t remember which lyrics I chose. And when it came time to sing that on stage, I went silent. That was embarrassing.

Tell us about your newest single.

The newest single is quite original. I use Beethoven’s motifs in the melody and reference him in the story of the song. The video also came out quite interesting with Beethoven almost haunting the protagonist of the story, which is presumably me.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’d like to grow my song collection and become a household name in my genre, known for writing songs that take people into new worlds of feelings and imagination.

Does your family support your musical journey?

Yes, because I have a day job which supports them and my music. My main work is selling online courses at https://www.problemio.com/courses.html and licensing courses to companies through https://www.problemio.com/udemy/white-labeling-or-buying-udemy-courses.html – I am also a popular Udemy instructor: https://www.udemy.com/user/alexgenadinik/

Who do you want to collaborate with?

I like to collaborate during the songwriting process with imaginative songwriters.

Any new projects you are working on that you want to share?

Yes, I recently released a poetry book on the Kindle of my own songs and my translations to English of some popular Russian songs: https://www.amazon.com/Poetry-Book-Songs-Collection-Journey-ebook/dp/B09L5CJ1ZX/
