Sip N Vibe
Smooth and funky with a slippery wet vibe, Sip N Vibe is a perfect club banger that will take you back to the early 2000s. Do not sleep on Ivy Lo. She sings her verses perfectly and then knows how to deliver a chorus. Estabrook Road Records made the right decision by signing Ivy Lo because she is a star. In fact, her aura and presence reminds me of Ashanti and other artists from that time period. Of course, Ivy Lo is in a league of her own and is carving a beautiful path in music. So, just take a sip and vibe.
We need more artists like Ivy and Lo. We reached out to Ivy Lo for an interview and luckily, she agreed.

Ivy Lo Interview with Rock the Hip Hop
What first got you into music?
I’ve always been drawn to music, however what got me into my own music career was being in college (Southern University A&M College). I was asked to join the Southern Jazz Band as a vocalist, and from there, I met someone who had connections to a studio and was invited. This is where I started recording my own music, and my first EP.
Who inspired you to make music?
Nobody necessarily inspired me to make my own music, It just came off of a whim. I always liked to write, read, and sing, so writing lyrics and making music felt natural to me. I was provided an opportunity to make my own songs, and I took it.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I would describe the music I write as its own creative work. Each song has a different feeling from the rest, and takes you down a different train of thought. I like to write music that can relate to me, but what I found is that we all grew up somewhat similar. As a result, other people can relate to my story as well even if it wasn’t intentional.
What is your creative process like?
My creative process always involves a journal, a light, and a clean room. I can only allow my creative juices to flow when I have these three things intact. Once done, I feel as though my creative process functions like machinery, I hear a beat and the lyrics write themselves.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with Snoh Aalegra, Jill Scott, Frank Ocean, and/or Jhene Aiko
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
I would open for Sade. I feel like her concerts would be so up my alley, and I would enjoy every minute of it.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
One message I would give to my fans is that hard work pays off, and to take any opportunity given to you that benefits you and your growth.
What is the most useless talent you have?
The most useless talent I have is being able to flicker my eyes really fast, and cross-eye them easily.
Do you sing in the shower?
Yes, I do
What songs?
I sing whatever song comes to mind, there is no specific song-it’s very random.
What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
I would still be in college, probably more focused on finishing my schoolwork and getting my degree.
Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?
I have performed at a few spots, however my favorite venue was last week where I performed at the Basin Music Hall in Baton Rouge, LA. The energy was nice, and I felt I gave my all. My least favorite venue was performing at someone’s birthday party. It was such short notice and I didn’t know I was supposed to perform. I don’t have any upcoming shows at the moment, but I will in due time.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I feel the internet has impacted the music business in a more efficient way. We are able to listen to whatever we want, from wherever we want, in seconds.
Moreover, I feel as though music-wise- transactions can be made quicker, and more talent is able to be discovered through the internet.
What is your favorite song to perform?
My favorite song to perform is “Woah” by Snoh Aalegra. My favorite song to perform of my own is “Soul Tied” Ivy Lo.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
The famous musicians I admire are Janet Jackson, Snoh Aalegra, Jhene Aiko, Jill Scott, Frank Ocean, and Ashanti.
What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
The most trouble I’ve ever gotten into was when I kept putting ice in my dog’s water because I felt that dogs would appreciate cold water too. However, my mom told me to stop because it could make them sick. I didn’t listen, and I kept going until she caught me and I got punished for about a week.
