Punani Papi Interview

Punani Papi is a talented artist who is putting out Latin music mixed with hip hop. He works hard and is infusing his unique style of music with modern music. Music is his passion and it is clearly exhibited in tracks like “Gr33dy AF”. The visuals in the music video perfectly match the lyrics and theme of the song. The quality of Punani Papi’s tracks is always well produced and beautiful.

We reached out to Punani Papi for an interview and luckily he agreed to be interviewed.

What do you like most about playing music?

I just love the feeling of being able to be endless with literally EVERYTHING. I’m an “uncut” gem so there’s a lot of rawness with my words.

What inspired you to start playing and making music?

Honestly, its just something I’ve been in love with my whole life. I create with pure love.

Describe your creative process when you write new music.

It just flows. Its actually crazy. Once I finish its straight to the studio as much as I can. I’m really fast with the process, I’ve made 20 songs in 1 month.

Who’s your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

Me & Tech N9ne, he is the very first artist to get me inspired to make this thing a career so I know for sure that I would bring my AAA game and it would be gorgeousness.

Which skills have you gained that help you perform effectively as a musician?

The thing with me is I actually never got TAUGHT how to sing….I just worked out my vocal cords to a bleeding point to where I was allowed to hit those high high notes. So its like a “authentic skill” cause before this I couldn’t sing at all.

Tell me about your favorite performance in your career.

Describe your worst performance. What did you learn from this experience?

Actually my last one at a nightclub, I was intoxicated but I could still work appropriately and I learned that I need to match the crowd’s preferred genre. Some may love afro, others may be rap, R&B, etc.

Which qualities do you think make a great musician?

I’m driven, I’m going to be a G.O.A.T. and that’s on everything I love. I walk around telling myself no one can top what I do and the amount of hours I work for it. I will be the greatest in the world period.

What made you want to become a musician?

The most organic love for sound. I’ve been doing this for a good 10 to 14 years and that never has changed. I just truly love music….almost as a significant other.

Which instruments did you play in high school?

In high school, I tried the bass guitar but honestly school made my lose interest, I can’t be forced to learn a song I don’t love…I just don’t work like that and I don’t think anyone does.

What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to 10 years?

For 5 years I see a certain type of energy behind my name. I want everyone to speak about me knowing there’s a weight on my name. At 10 years though I see myself bigger then ever.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

oh but of course! I call myself an artist….so I’m not JUST a musician. I’m also a model, studio engineer/mixer, and progressively being a photographer/videographer.

What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician?

I have a level of confidence that no one on this world has. I walk into ANY genre knowing I’m going to demolish it. It sounds cocky but that’s just me telling you the honest truth.

Do you have any weaknesses that you’re actively working to improve on?

None that I know of that have to do with music necessarily….if anything I definitely have to work on my “promoting” strategies and consistency. At the moment, I don’t really have a team aside from my people so I kind of have to force myself to do more then the average artist.
